...just in case ara hasn't unlocked the post yet, but like i've been saying around—mitsuri and shinobu were two people that giyuu was going to protect to hell and back and while he clearly only got to express that rage because ara was terrible to me, if the same happened to mitsuri, his reaction wouldn't have been too far off that course. in canon they don't talk or interact at all but, gestures to the image, due to that giyuu was going to make a real attempt to talk to her like he would with anyone else, and to make an effort to behave like one would expect a friend to act. ...which is also laughable because this means giyuu would need to understand how to talk to people in the first place but he does not :')

WHICH IS DOUBLE GREAT BC HE WAS THE MASTERMIND... either way shinobu telling him this coupled with the fact that he needed to make sure that he had enough people on his side as possible, meant that he could play into getting close to mitsuri due to shinobu and because he needed her to trust him even beyond what she normally would due to them being from the same place. the fact that she already is so kind and trusts so easily played into his hand and against to her. truly between the two of them, he was less concerned about mitsuri slapping the betray or even wondering if there was anything strange of him until it was too late than he was about shinobu.

though despite the curse giyuu was still giyuu??? his actions are still his own. his mind was, for the most part, his own. so his concern for mitsuri was real and he did genuinely feel bad when she was sad about what happened when people died and later to her camp. ...the problem was just when it came to dealing with the island curse because as bad he felt for seeing people he respects/cares for, the curse told him that it was just a necessary part of the "grand plan" and if he kept doing what he was doing then mitsuri and shinobu would make it out fine.

:))))))

closes eyes intensely.

i'm including all of these screencaps from pcs because they influenced how giyuu behaved—and since giyuu liked dimitri... to hear this from dimitri it meant that flayn was going to be in his good books. or rather, he wasn't going to look for her for any potential endangerment. i mean, at first, he saved flayn because giyuu isn't a bad person at heart and isn't about to let a girl drown. he also wasn't going to let her walk around in heavy clothes that were soaked!!! though after this talk... u_u

he never really got to see all of the kindness that flayn possessed but he was worried for her during that time he found her (dying) out late on the road. she also rose in his good graces when she provided him fish....even if that fish probably should have killed him. flayn could have been the true hero of the game and we just weren't given that chance. instead she died and dimitri went feral and boy didn't that change everything?

because mastermind!giyuu wanted to keep dimitri on his side because he saw the use of dimitri with his...everything, with flayn dead that kind of control was gone. he knew he was going to be hunted down like the actual giyuu knew he should be :)))) &wow didn't that suck for his plans..!! which, yeah, sucked for his plans because we got golden end despite of everything leading up to that moment.

fast forward to the giyuu at this very moment who is a free man for his thoughts—he feels guilty and responsible for the fact that shinobu took credit for her murder because she wanted to pull off something stupid (or in reality, ara wanted for me to suffer). he knew she was lying and making herself a target for something but he didn't know what it was. he still isn't entirely sure (SOMETHING I NEED TO FIX IN THE THREAD) but yeah. he's hoping she doesn't easily forgive him for what he's done because he doesn't feel as though he deserves to be forgiven easily. if we see each other in crau you can bet your bottom dollar that he's going to want to make sure she doesn't suffer the same fate as she did on the island. u_u flayn is a sweet girl and doesn't deserve this.

hah, you think i’ll just leave this with the shit post but i’m not. i’m going to give you a proper tl;cr so you can know what it feels like. ...admittedly it won’t be as awful as they can be because this is only 2 weeks but this was likely the longest 2 weeks of giyuu’s life to date if only because of the island’s curse + shinobu which caused him to act differently than he would have if he was thrown into this situation otherwise.

the first and foremost thing that he wanted to establish was the fact that when he arrived on the island that he could test the waters to see who would believe him and who wouldn’t—enter dimitri being one of the people who immediately believed him (alongside his castmates because sometimes it just be like that), which was perfect because it seemed like dimitri would listen to him no matter what. ...for whatever reason. the island!giyuu saw him very much as a sort of “if you feed a dog, they’ll stay with you for life” sort of situation because if he built up as much trust as possible in the time frame given, he’d ignore whatever have you, right? and dimitiri seemed to have good pr with others…

it was just perfect. a mild mannered, royal boy who wants to do good—plenty of people would stand on his side. as long as he kept him on his good graces, he should be able to get away with it :))) (or, he did until he didn’t.)

then enter the conversation he had with shinobu and mitsuri about covering/protecting/watching out for each camp that they arrived at more or less and while it gave giyuu more reason to interact with everyone there, it also meant that he would get close to them and actually care. :/ that moment where you only want to use someone to your own nefarious goals only to actually care. though the thing that took island!giyuu by surprise was when he called giyuu his friend because, much like in the case of ryuji, he didn’t do much to earn their friendship. so, all of that was hilarious in terms of the cursed giyuu was concerned…

except giyuu was still giyuu even if his thinking was affected by the island. which also means that half of the things out of his mouth was truthful. he truly trusted dimitri outside of the island’s influence and was shocked (and honored) with the fact that dimitri considered him his friend. especially given the fact that he didn’t think that he deserved dimitri’s friendship because he was still sentencing people to their deaths, but you know. ...the timing of it was also ironic as shinobu just told him not to think that people like him because his perception sucks. (thanks shinobu!!!!)

( shinobu voice ) don’t automatically think that people like you
( dimitri voice ) i consider you my friend.
giyuu: i do not have the social skills to handle this situation.

enter The Trial and Flayn dying. by this point, the island was so close to winning that he knew he had to pull off all of the stops to encourage people to murder instead of catching him… it probably would have worked if the island (mods) allowed giyuu to play the role of executioner again because he would be one body closer to completing the ritual. but then dimitri was hellbent on stopping the person who was responsible for flynn’s death—ideally he would have found who was responsible for flayn’s death so that person could die and he could go free… instead, well, we know what happened. giyuu, actual giyuu, wanted dimitri to figure it out—he wanted everyone to figure it out in earnest. then the execution happened and that was a lot and it makes me tired so let's just say that giyuu was ultimately very happy that he stabbed him but would also try to cut off dimitri's hand if he tries to harm shinobu again.....

so, here they are at the endgame log with giyuu feeling responsible for everything and expecting no one to forgive him/trust him as a result. he's fine with that. it’s just as things should be. please never have dimitri tell giyuu he still considers him his friend because he’ll won’t know what to do. closes my eyes.

BUT BOY OH BOY WHAT CRAU WILL BE IF WE ALL PARTY THERE.

[personal profile] baori 2020-05-27 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
ARA WHERE IS MINE…sobs.

anyway clearly i lied about you going last because crau is about to happen and i really should give you something to work off, or, well, an idea of how much trouble that you gave me. anyway, the fact that i was rolled to be the mastermind made me suffer in itself but coupled with the fact of their conflicting canon points, things weren’t any better. mainly because it didn’t change the fact that giyuu wanted to protect her from dying (again), and between mitsuri and shinobu he favored shinobu because of whatever they are...even though there is no “future” for her to return to. even though he more than accepts what happened to her. they’re pillars; dying is just an occupational hazard. something built into the job description. however, despite of this, giyuu wanted to do what he could because he had come to the resolve that he would protect those who meant something to him with his life. so, even though there was nothing waiting for her at home, he still wanted to do something for her here.

giyuu is an idiot and i hate him.

the fun is when the factor of the mastermind comes into play because he knew that he could keep shinobu safe...or, well, relatively safe. there was nothing to ensure that the people he picked wouldn’t go after shinobu or mitsuri, but he could do enough to where shinobu would be seen as reliable and someone that shouldn’t die. (ie. him telling dimitri to seek her out because she is someone who is to be trusted.) ...and he could make sure that she wouldn’t be picked to complete the ritual because of the trials (sorry ara). though that would have been fine there?? i wouldn’t have suffered if that’s all that happened??? the part where my suffering happened was the fact that it was during their first conversation that shinobu pointed out to giyuu how untrustworthy/weak his opinion of who he considered to be friends was. ...as well as encouraged him to make bonds with others… AND how they all mutually accepted to take care and look after each camp that they arrived at. which, you know, as the mastermind threw a huge wrench into his plans because he didn’t want to care about anyone else.

…and that’s exactly what ended up happening, too. giyuu ended up becoming attached to jungle camp which meant he would have more people he would want to “save” instead of just faces and numbers. SO THANKS SHINOBU. truly, anything that caused him to make efforts to socialize better with anyone else, was a direct result of shinobu’s words. it was just unfortunate that it worked so well with his cursed self’s intentions. but what really threw him for a loop was the way that they began to interact with one another—how they had moments where giyuu wasn’t automatically shooting himself in the foot or putting it into his mouth. in those moments he would consider if they could call each other friends, but then again, if they were, she’d be the one to tell him that… right? giyuu wasn't going to consider them friends. shinobu pointed out that she didn't consider them friends.

regardless of that, though, he had even began to make note of her more sincere smiles—NOT LIKE HE KNEW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM—but somewhere between those smiles and the fish she gave him, he really began to value her and think about what he really lost. which clearly made things harder because it pushed him into trying to complete the ritual to ensure that they could escape the best way he knew they would. yes, yes, he is fully aware of what awaits her, but he's an idiot. if there was anything he could do, he wanted to.

the height of his struggles was during that thread where NONE OF US WENT TO BED because he was torn between wanting to jump in and say something because of his desire to help her but also know that nothing he could say would pardon him from suspicion. maybe they wouldn’t expect him if he didn’t say anything… he figured that shinobu knew at that point which made the whole execution stranger in retrospect because she had to know, right? the fact that she threw herself in the way and outright lied about killing someone—forcing dimitri’s hand—outright triggered him. COULD PEOPLE STOP DYING IN FRONT OF HIM THAT’D BE SWELL….. so, this leaves us with endgame where giyuu feels nothing but guilt for what happened on the island but also treasures the memories he has made with her on the island—as tainted as they are. her memory and her sacrifices live within him and he’ll never forget her—which is the way it should end but thanks crau ://///

honestly, giyuu and island!giyuu both kind of had the same opinion of anaido until he was killed. which, unsurprisingly, was that he was someone he wanted to avoid at all costs because he was definitely a busy-body and clearly wanted to form a Friendship. (come at me in crau, i guess)

however he died and it was at that moment that the opinion shifted if only because of how anaido told giyuu that he didn't think he would survive the island. giyuu didn't see the point of saying something like that when he fought for his life just moments before with their arrival. if he wanted to die, then he should have allowed himself to die. if he wanted to struggle for his life then that's what he should be doing.

...then zoe happened. zoe, the murderer he picked, happened and giyuu wondered if it was just pure coincidence that he had told giyuu that and that then zoe killed him. to say that he felt bad is both a lie and a true statement as giyuu really did feel bad but the island made him believe that it was fine. he didn't think he would survive anyway and it was his weak resolve that allowed it to happen. the fact that anaido came to talk to him as the ghost was....something else. the whole exchange was ironic give the fact that giyuu was giyuu and anaido didn't know he was cursed.

irt where they are now w/endgame and the like... WELL. giyuu doesn't expect any kind of forgiveness for what he has done and the fact that anaido continues to treat him as he has confuses him. it's not bad but it isn't something that's comfortable for him. he doesn't know what to do with it aside from trying to give him the smallest chance and hope that anaido doesn't take it and run with it for miles and miles...........
